Performance

“Record numbers going to Russell Group universities and studying medicine.”

This summer St Mark’s Academy are celebrating another year of great post 16 Academic and Applied General outcomes. Academic attainment has equalled last year’s record outcomes and remained at a C minus. Our Applied General average grade is a Distinction minus, which is significantly above the national average. Progress in Applied General is +0.51 with students on average achieving half a grade more compared to other students nationally. For the second year running this shows that the quality of education within BTEC’s produces outstanding outcomes. 81% of students are going to university which is an increase from 72% in 2018 and 10 of these students are going to study at a Russell Group university compared to 4 students in 2018. One student, Nikas, attained an A* in Biology and Chemistry and an A grade in Physics. He is heading to Kings College London to study medicine.

On average there has been an increase in the Value Added (VA) across both academic and applied subjects which is a measure of progress pupils have made. The majority of A level subjects are well above National Average, with many securing a progress score that is half a grade higher than what’s achieved nationally. The school are particularly proud of the following subjects who have supported students making outstanding progress;

  • Spanish VA +1.75
  • Business Studies VA +0.67
  • ICT VA +0.58
  • Sport VA +0.57
  • H&SC VA +0.41
  • Applied Science VA +0.41
  • Biology VA +0.30
  • English Literature VA +0.13
