Rationale

St Mark’s Church of England Academy has a distinctive Christian ethos which is at the heart of this Academy. We provide an inclusive, caring and supportive environment where children learn and flourish in a setting shaped by Christian values. We welcome applications from all members of the wider local community and we ask all parents to respect the Christian ethos of our Academy and its importance to our community.

The Governors of the Academy are committed to developing an inclusive Academy that reflects the diversity of the local community.

All applications will be made through the Merton Central Admissions www.merton.gov.uk/admissions. There are 180 year 7 places available for application.

If the school is oversubscribed:

Foundation Place Applications

The Governing Body has designated 60 places to be offered to pupils whose parent/carer is a faithful and regular worshipper in an Anglican or other Christian Church.

Please download Supplementary Form for Foundation Places below

Written evidence of the parent/carer’s commitment to their place of worship will be required at the time of application which must be returned to the School on the Supplementary Information Form; this evidence must be endorsed by your priest. A Christian Church is one that is a full member of a local Churches Together Group, Churches Together in England, The Evangelical Alliance, or Affinity or FIEC. Please refer to the Admissions Policy below for more information.

Open Places

The School has designated 120 places each year as open places, to be offered to pupils who do not qualify for a foundation place, but whose parents have chosen the school for the type of education it provides. Parents applying for an open place do so knowing that the School aims to provide an education based on Christian principles and, therefore, hopes that all pupils will take part in the Christian worship of the school and attend religious education lessons. Please refer to the Admissions Policy below for more information.

Casual Admission (in year)

St Mark’s will consider applications for all years if the year group has a place available.

For information regarding in-year admissions, please follow this link to the relevant page of the London Borough of Merton's admissions website.

Sixth Form Admissions

An application form is required to be completed. Candidates would be expected to meet minimum course requirements. If applying from an external school a report and reference will be necessary. Entry to the Sixth Form will be dependent on places being available on the course applied for.

Appeals

Monday 1st March 2022 – National Offer Day Secondary

Parent/carers who wish to appeal against the school’s decision not to offer a place to their child should contact the local authority no later than 28 days after the offer is received. Appeals will be heard in line with the School Admission Code (2012). An Independent Appeal Panel will be arranged to consider our reasons for refusal and the parent/carer’s reasons for wanting their child to attend the school. You will get at least 14 calendar days’ written notice of an appeal date.

The decision of the Independent Appeal Panel is binding on both the school and the parent/carers.

More details of the appeals process can be found at the local authority admissions pages here.
