From St Mark’s Academy to the Royal Academy?

Our young artists have been making some really exciting work over the past months and we are looking forward to building on the success of last year when the GCSE exams come around again. This is what we’ve been up to…

Year 11 pupils have been working on their final unit of coursework, ‘Icons/Idols’. They have shown excellent drawing skills and are currently preparing their own creative response to the theme for their Mock Exam.

Year 10 pupils have been studying ‘The Weeping Woman’ by Pablo Picasso. The painting deals with the conflicts of the Spanish Civil War. I am impressed by the level of research students have done in working towards presenting their own personal response to the theme. They are showing real creative flair with their ideas.

Year 9 pupils have made some beautiful oil pastel drawings based on the theme, ‘Food and Drink’, and you will soon be able to see the high quality of their work when the Academy calendar is published.

Year 8 pupils have been studying the French painter, Georges Seurat, and are currently producing a huge collage for a school display.

Year 7 pupils have been learning about the Basic Visual Elements in Art and Design. They had a lot of fun working as a team to produce giant colour wheel charts using junk materials.

Year 11 student's work:

Buddy Holly by Amy Dimmock   Tyra Banks by Fatouma Sebagala-Zawede
