KCS Partnership
This year the EAL Department at St Mark’s and King’s College School, Wimbledon have embarked together on a project designed to develop teaching & learning skills among students in both schools and offer opportunities for interaction and collaboration outside the normal school environment.
The programme consists in a group of Y12 students from KSC, who wanted to gain experience in teaching EFL, offering English lessons to a group of EAL beginners from our school.
The EAL students are accompanied to KCS every Friday afternoon for lunch and an English lesson, so far the programme has been greatly enjoyed by both parties.
The lessons are varied and interesting and our students look forward to their Friday lesson every week. The sessions include very intense 1 to 1 work but also role-play and revision quizzes at the end of each topic (with delicious treats to be won!). There are also more practical sessions that offer ample opportunities for extended communication (e.g. making pancakes together).
The lesson atmosphere is relaxed but challenging at the same time and overall everyone is having a good time while learning a great deal, as lesson topics are often based on a significant amount of new vocabulary.
Well done to all the students participating in this project as they are on a very steep learning curve!
