EAL
The EAL (English as an Additional Language) department at St Mark’s work with students recently arrived from abroad in need of extra English lessons.
EAL programme of withdrawal:
- Beginners; 5-6 lessons/week
- Starters; 3 - 4 lessons/week
- Movers/Advanced; 2 lessons/week
Additionally, the EAL students receive support in-lessons from bilingual staff as well as extra help with their homework during Enrichment (Tuesday 3pm-4pm). The EAL withdrawal lessons cease when the students reach L4 in English writing and they can fully access the British Curriculum.
Curriculum:
- The lessons consist in a mix of English vocabulary, grammar and skills lessons (reading and listening) appropriate for each NC level, with an emphasis on English grammar taught by EAL specialist teachers.
- The course is aimed at improving all four skills in English (reading, writing, speaking and listening) therefore the lessons offer a variety of topics and activities that address these skills.
